Nice video. Do you still have the vhs tape by any chance?
Super test match
As a west Indian Graham Gooch and Mike Gatting was two of my favorite players out side westindies team
Amazing game.Listened to commentary on shortwave radio.
Never had the opportunity to watch these games, thank you
Victoria look like New South Wales here.
INTRO GIVES GOOSEBUMPS
SA were stacked in that game. What a lineup.
Absolutely world class and unbelievable performance 😊
Dog act by Chappell denying Richards the opportunity of hitting the winning runs.
Holding was simply the fastest ever. Props to Gooch. Sheer guts.
Glory days of cricket Thomson Lillee Walker Pasco Roberts Holding Garner Daniel Tony Cozer Richie Benaud Pace like 🔥 fire 🔥
The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey!!
Vry classy & eloquent century by vry stylish David Hookes & nerve wrecking catches to put an end to it by Glenn Trimble & Eldrich vry exceptional fielding often isn't seen in most of international matches
The man is flowing. Has so much if time.
This is gold!
Mike Haysmen went on the rebel tour to South Africa. Considered to be a sell out by many in the South African freedom movement. He then got a job with Supersport as a commentator. It turned out to be a lucrative move.
Nice to see footage of Trevor Bayliss who is very active in the coaching arena.
Is he dropped at 9:55?
This is tight bowling at its best. England were kept in check
Looks bizarre to see this played in a stadium that was virtually empty. The crowds stayed away at first out of some kind of loyalty to the 'establishment'. The Packer rebels were seen as traitors at first but by the end of the summer they were playing in front of decent crowds, the next summer everybody and his brother were queueing up and reaching into their pockets to pay cash money for tickets.
Surprised to watch batsmen facing fastest bowlers of that time without wearing helmet. So dangerous
Against a mediocre attack 😂 Lillee a novice then and nothing special in batting. Greame Pollock was much better when it comes to playing with ease !
Never ban sportsman & sporting team or event's.
Memories of childhood - would only get the scores in the telegraph a day later and marvel at some of the names …..
The Chappels were poor sports.
Good to see this tape survived. Another one which would have been good was the australia vs west indies test 75/76 unfortunately I think the abc went over those tapes. Pity would have been good to see Fredericks century.
What a batter, Barry Richards
Appalling sportsmanship!
Number of years ago as a Yorkshireman, went watch a match against Hampshire. Richards and Gordon Greenidge opened and Andy Robert’s the bowling. At that time only a player born in Yorkshire could play for Yorkshire. We lost.
Two Super teams of late 70's and 80's, no comparison wid other teams those days
Tremendous job done by Umpire by giving run out of Robert on a close decion. Robert was marginally out, good judgement of umpire ❤🎉
Poor old Andrew Hilditch hasn't been given this year's kit yet!
Something in the name Richards. They (Barry and Viv) seem to have amazing coordination and loads of time to hit the ball.
Boundary ropes are brought up too far.
Has a lot of time to.play and elegant. But poor technique nevertheless. Exaggerated snd premeditated back and across movement. Quality pitched up seam bowling will undo him more than not.
Loved it
0:43 Eh?! WTF was up with the WI batting order? Laurence Rowe at 8, Clive Lloyd at 9? I mean if you think Rowe wouldn't be a fast enough scorer then you shouldn't play him at all.... weird.
boundary sizes
oh.. Pakistan !
2:58 VFL Park has a southern end!
Musalman madachor
7:37 - Imperious. If you consider yourself a cricket fan, then you have to watch this entire video. A shame so many newer cricket fans aren't aware of the likes of Barry Richards and Graeme Pollock. And yes. I love the modern game and modern players also.
It's a pity the crowds for this match were so poor, because it was actually an outstanding game of cricket.
Never as quick after this accident I think-perhaps occasional deliveries reached similar speeds as of pre-Thommo/Turner.
Footy Park is a similar size to the Adelaide Oval in how its configured here. Fence to fence at Footy Park was 177 metres long and 142 metres wide. Unlike Adelaide Oval there was a distinctive slope from the centre to the boundary which was all to do with drainage (Football Park and the general West Lakes area was actually built on a swamp). There were only 3 venues at the time in Adelaide that had lights. Norwood Oval, which wasn't suitable for cricket (if you thought Adelaide Ovals old square boundaries were short.....Norwood Oval was almost 20 metres narrower). There was also Thebarton Oval which did play host to grade cricket and had lights, and of course Football Park. Adelaide Oval wouldn't get permanent lights until 1997. At this time, Footy Park was deemed the only one who's lights were up to TV broadcast standard.
It seems Barry was most troubled with his gum-chewing technique here. Oodles of time, only moving his feet to the line and length of the ball delivered- not even his "twin", the great Viv Richards did that.
In fact no gum chewed here-doesn't need to calm the nerves, it's just a game in the park.
Not sure Rodney caught that one off Viv
I think at 9:18 he played the helicopter shot
That first interview after the batsman got out was funny AF😂
